This grant funded project had the students working simultaneously on collaborative and individual totem lamps, creating large orbs and smaller sculptural forms for each lamp. The themes were open ended, but the project took place during the height of COVID quarantine and had a huge influence on the thinking and mood in the classroom. Our lamp building community of nine students was a great escape for all. The students created two or three orbs for the school lamps, while also designing their own personal piece. The students participated in the construction of the totems and the electrical wiring of the lamps. We had a great celebration each time a finished lamp was plugged in and the lightbulb lit up.
