My first public project was in 2008 at the Healey school in Somerville, MA. The school has an interior garden planter in the large foyer outside the main office. The foyer is a gathering place and the planter held nothing but dirt. I worked with 4 classes of 5th and 6th graders to bring life to the garden. The students worked both individually and in teams, creating the many pieces that came together as the totems and wall sculpture pictured in the website. My goal was to guide the students in building an artwork larger than themselves. It was so exciting for the students, and for me. I found so much satisfaction in teaching and leading the students at the Healey School, I have worked to create similar projects at other schools.
